Start with Acrobat Reader's built-in Read Out Loud command. If it is silent, unavailable, or reading in the wrong order, check the voice, text layer, and document structure before trying a browser-based PDF reader.
In Acrobat Reader, choose View > Read Out Loud > Activate Read Out Loud. Return to the same menu and choose Read This Page Only or Read to End of Document. If nothing plays, open Preferences > Reading and select an installed system voice. Open the PDF, then choose View > Read Out Loud > Activate Read Out Loud. On Windows, the View command may be inside the hamburger menu; on macOS it appears in the top menu.
Go back to View > Read Out Loud and choose Read This Page Only for a quick test or Read to End of Document for continuous playback.
Open Preferences > Reading. Turn off Use Default Voice if necessary and select a voice you know is installed and working on the computer.
