Jeneva Rose's Sometimes I Scare Myself offers three separate horror stories, so you can try her supernatural fiction without committing to a continuing series. It also has an unusually useful ebook distinction: a specific library catalog lists Open EPUB, and the US Kobo edition explicitly lists DRM-Free EPUB 3. Those are more precise answers than a generic promise that an ebook is available.
Start with Tennessee READS' complete ebook record if you have an eligible member-library card. It lists both EPUB ebook and Open EPUB ebook, in English, under ISBN 9798212182898. Borrowing requires an account and a loan or hold; the record is not a public file anyone can download. If you cannot borrow it, Kobo's US English edition is a paid DRM-free download option, ISBN 9798212182904. We verified those listings on October 24, 2026, but have not completed a loan, purchase or import.

First choose the kind of scare you want
The publisher's collection page introduces three distinct setups. You can choose an entry point by the situation that interests you, while keeping the internal order of each story intact:
| Story | Starting situation | A reason to choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Never Kill the Medium | A birthday dinner includes a séance that goes wrong | You want a social gathering to turn dangerous |
| The Nightmare House | A mother suspects something is wrong with the family's new home | You prefer domestic unease and the difficulty of being believed |
| All Curses Are Final | Friends visit a roadside shop before a winter cabin trip | You like an isolated group with a troubling object in its midst |
These are adult horror premises, not a guarantee of a cozy Halloween read. Death, supernatural threats and a family in danger matter more to choosing a story than the collection's manageable divisions. If one premise is personally uncomfortable, choose another or use a sample before committing.
The three-story format is also why a single overall rating can conceal useful differences. Heather Adores Books, who discloses an advance review copy, responds more strongly to some entries than others. Recent reviews checked on October 24 make the same distinction: Montana especially enjoys the house story, while Mel finds the paranormal material and endings unsatisfying. These are individual reactions; linked reviews may disclose more plot than this guide does.
Treat each story as a fresh start. After finishing one, make a one-line note about what worked for you—setting, characters, suspense or resolution—before moving to the next. That gives you a more useful recommendation for a friend than simply averaging three different experiences.
Borrow an Open EPUB before paying for a copy
On the Tennessee READS listing, sign in with an eligible library card and check the available loan options. If your own library uses a different catalog, search the title and author there and inspect its formats; the Tennessee listing does not establish eligibility or availability elsewhere.
OverDrive explains that Open EPUB is not protected by Adobe DRM, while Adobe EPUB requires its supported authorization process. After borrowing, choose Open EPUB if the loan actually offers it and download through the library's instructions. This still remains a library loan with its terms and duration; an unprotected format is not permission to redistribute the book.
We have not verified an authorized, publicly accessible complete free English EPUB or PDF outside those borrowing conditions. A result labeled “free download” without a verifiable distributor is not equivalent to this catalog record. For a no-purchase taste of the writing, Marie Claire's authorized excerpt from The Nightmare House is a preview, not the complete collection.
Download the paid DRM-free edition from Kobo
The US Kobo listing identifies Blackstone Publishing, English, September 22, 2026, EPUB 3 (DRM-Free), 873 KB. It requires purchase and a Kobo account. Check your actual country's availability and the download field again before buying; we are not assuming every regional edition has the same restrictions.
Kobo's export instructions describe the account route: My Account → My Books → Actions beside the book → Download → Download file. For an unprotected edition, the result can be used in a compatible reader without Adobe Digital Editions. The store link itself is not a download button for a free file, and this guide does not provide the paid book.
Turn one story into a manageable listening session
Once you have a compatible, unprotected EPUB you are entitled to use, open CastReader's EPUB workspace, select the file and choose the story from its contents. Check the opening text before pressing Play. If you received an ACSM authorization file instead, you have not obtained an importable EPUB; return to that edition's supported reading process.
EPUB parsing takes place locally. A device voice is free where available; AI voices require an account and have plan limits, and cloud voices send reading text for speech generation. We have verified the format listings, not played through a purchased or borrowed copy. Compatibility should be checked on the file you actually receive.
If you already have the book in Kindle, download CastReader and follow the Kindle reading-page route instead of assuming a Kindle purchase includes EPUB export. TTS is separate from the collection's professionally narrated audiobook.
At the start of each session, confirm the story title, then read a short paragraph while following its highlight. Stop at a section break and keep a location note. For this collection, the useful unit is one story and its particular fear; you do not need to rush through all three before deciding which kind of horror you want next.
