For a Baldur’s Gate 3 fan, “Can I hear Astarion’s story?” can mean two different things: hearing the actor associated with the character, or having the novel’s text read aloud while you follow it. The official Astarion audiobook is narrated by Neil Newbon. A TTS reader serves a different purpose and does not supply his performance.
There is an English EPUB route, too. Brunswick County Library’s exact ebook record lists EPUB ebook, ISBN 9798217298600, plus OverDrive Read and Kindle Book. Start there if you have an eligible library card. It is a protected, time-limited loan rather than a public download. The Kobo English edition is a purchase alternative explicitly labeled EPUB 3 (Adobe DRM).

The version choice matters before the first chapter
| What you want | Specific starting point | What access means |
|---|---|---|
| The English ebook without buying first | Brunswick County EPUB loan | Eligible card, borrowing availability and loan period apply; EPUB is not an unrestricted file. |
| A purchased English EPUB edition | Kobo: Astarion | Paid account purchase; EPUB 3 with Adobe DRM, subject to store region. |
| Neil Newbon’s recorded narration | Official audiobook in the library catalog | Separate audiobook, not an EPUB; the Connecticut library consortium’s borrowing rules apply. |
The audiobook record identifies an unabridged English recording, published by Books on Tape, with a duration of 10:01:07 and ISBN 9798217408979. Use that identifier when comparing editions so you do not accidentally choose a text ebook while looking for the recording. Availability at one library says nothing about access at another.
For EPUB, open the title record, sign in only if your card is eligible, and follow the library’s borrow or hold option. The format listed before login is evidence that this edition exists, not proof that every visitor can download it immediately. A protected loan may use an ACSM license and an authorized reader; uploading that license to a general EPUB player will not open the book. We have not borrowed or purchased these editions.
A broad search did not produce a verified authorized free full English EPUB or PDF. The useful answer is therefore the concrete library route first, followed by the protected purchase edition—not a “free download” button that leads to a summary or an unidentified file.
What story are you getting outside the game?
T. Kingfisher’s novel looks back at Astarion’s life under Cazador Szarr. The US publisher sets up a contest involving the blood of a dead god and an alliance with the aasimar paladin Hahn den Suriel. The hook is how someone whose choices are constrained by his master navigates the possibility of trust.
That is a narrower starting point than “another playthrough of BG3.” You are following a written account of a particular character, not choosing dialogue responses or directing a party. If you mainly want your own player character’s romance continued, check the publisher’s sample and premise before committing. If you want another angle on Astarion’s history, the novel’s choices are precisely what you will be assessing.
Regional publication details can also explain apparently conflicting listings. The US edition was released September 29, 2026; Titan’s UK hardback listing gives October 15, 2026 and ISBN 9781835419588. A UK preorder label on October 14 does not mean the English US ebook has not been released.
The disagreement among readers is about character, not just plot
The visible Goodreads reviews are particularly useful for identifying expectations. Kathleen and her books, writing about an advance copy in September, enjoyed the character and the contrast with the paladin. Sadie E responded more positively to the opening voice than to the later characterization. Those reactions cannot settle whether the portrayal is “correct” for every player.
In a September 29 review, Liv C. valued the alternating narrative and the way relationships illuminate Astarion’s past. Another release-day response, from a reader unfamiliar with the game, stopped because the sexual content did not suit them. That is a helpful reminder to check the sample and content expectations, even if you normally enjoy Kingfisher’s other work. These are individual reviews, several involving advance copies, rather than a poll of all readers.
Try entering with two questions: What does Astarion say to protect himself? What does the narration let you see behind it? When the story moves between periods of his life, keep those periods distinct. A quick note naming the people around him is more useful than trying to reconcile every line immediately with a preferred game outcome.
Neil Newbon audio or TTS: choose for the experience you want
If the actor’s delivery is the attraction, use the official recording’s sample and the audiobook entry above. TTS is not a substitute for buying or borrowing that performance. At its listed length, ten sessions of about an hour would spread the recording over roughly ten days at normal speed; that is a planning estimate, not the book’s chapter structure.
If your aim is to follow a passage visually, slow down, and return to an unfamiliar name, a supported text-reading route may be more useful. Download CastReader for your device, then follow the Kindle reading instructions when your own accessible edition is available in that supported interface. A library’s Kindle option is separate from its EPUB option, and neither implies a freely exportable file.
The CastReader EPUB workspace is for compatible unencrypted files. Do not buy this Adobe DRM EPUB expecting to import it directly. CastReader does not remove DRM. On-device reading can run without an account; CastReader AI requires sign-in and has plan limits. Cloud voices send the reading text for speech generation, even when the document itself was parsed locally.
For this particular book, the most useful first decision is simple: are you choosing the official actor’s performance, or a text edition you can comfortably read and revisit? Decide that before choosing a download format.
