Victorious EPUB: DRM-Free Download Options and Villains Reading Order

The English Tor edition of V. E. Schwab's Victorious is available as a paid, DRM-free EPUB. The Kobo US listing identifies ISBN 9781250192240 and EPUB 3 without DRM. If you already own that edition on Kobo, go to your account's My Books → Actions → Download to retrieve the file. If you do not own it, that link is a purchase page, not a free download.

Before buying, check one other thing: this is the third and final Villains novel, not a new standalone. If Victor, Eli and Sydney are unfamiliar names, begin with Vicious. If you are returning after a long break, the most useful preparation is a small character-and-timeline refresher, not a spoiler-filled explanation of the ending.

Can you download a free Victorious EPUB?

We did not verify a publisher-authorized, publicly downloadable complete free English EPUB on October 22, 2026. We did find a specific library ebook record, an official excerpt and the DRM-free retail edition. They solve different problems:

What you needVerified routeWhat to expect
Try borrowing the complete bookFree Library of Philadelphia's Victorious recordThe English record lists EPUB ebook, OverDrive Read and Kindle Book. Borrowing requires an eligible library card; availability, holds and loan terms depend on the library. It is not an open file download.
Read before payingTor's official book page and excerptA free excerpt, not the complete novel. It assumes earlier events, so save it until you have finished the first two books if you want to avoid spoilers.
Keep a downloadable English EPUBBuy the DRM-free Tor edition on KoboA paid EPUB 3, downloaded through the purchasing account. The US listing showed $16.99 when checked; price and availability can differ by region.

Tor's own page explicitly confirms that this ebook is sold without DRM. That is useful evidence about this retail edition; it does not mean every library loan, foreign-language edition or Kindle purchase gives you the same exportable file. The library's EPUB loan is listed separately from an open EPUB, so follow its supported lending app rather than assuming it can be imported elsewhere.

For an existing Kobo purchase, Kobo's export instructions explain how to open My Books, use the book's Actions menu and choose Download. A DRM-free EPUB can be exported directly without Adobe Digital Editions. We verified the listing and instructions; we did not buy, download or test-import this paid book.

Read Vicious, then Vengeful, then Victorious

The publisher's series listing gives this order:

  1. Vicious — start here for Victor and Eli's relationship and the premise of ExtraOrdinaries.
  2. Vengeful — continue the existing story before opening the finale's sample or reviews.
  3. Victorious — the conclusion, published in English on October 6, 2026.

Read the novels in that order even though the narrative moves backward and forward in time. Publication order and internal chronology are different things: trying to rearrange the scenes into a chronological first read would remove the author's control over when information reaches you.

For returning readers, make a five-name note from where you left off in Vengeful: Victor, Eli, Sydney, Mitch and June. Beside each, write only what you remember about their relationship to the others. Leave blanks when uncertain and consult your own earlier ebook. A blank is safer than a search result that reveals the finale.

You do not need to memorize an encyclopedia of powers. The more useful questions are: Who trusts whom? Who owes whom? What does each person believe they are justified in doing? Those are a better guide to this series than treating “hero” and “villain” as permanent labels.

Decide whether you want an ensemble finale

The disagreement in the Goodreads reviews we read is useful for setting expectations. In an October 15 review, bookluvr praises the short chapters, nonlinear structure and emotional conclusion. An October 20 review by Alexia is enthusiastic about Victor and Eli but less convinced by the antagonist and supporting cast. These are individual responses, not a survey or our own cover-to-cover verdict.

The practical distinction is what you are returning for. If you want the wider group's story resolved, allow room for characters beyond the original rivalry. If your interest is almost entirely Victor and Eli, do not buy on the assumption that every chapter will stay with them. A favorite relationship can remain central to your experience without occupying every scene.

This is dark, morally uncomfortable speculative fiction. Supernatural abilities do not turn the characters into reliable moral guides. For a first-time Schwab reader who wants to sample that approach, the beginning of Vicious is a better test than the last book of the trilogy.

A listening method for the time jumps

The official excerpt opens with a time label before its scene. Treat those headings as navigation instructions. When listening while cooking or commuting, it is easy to hear the action and miss the few words that tell you when it takes place.

Try this simple routine:

  • At a new section, keep the heading visible. Note the time label and whose situation you are following before speeding up.
  • When resuming, replay the previous paragraph. A few repeated sentences are less disruptive than spending a whole scene in the wrong time period.
  • Pause at a change of viewpoint. Write a short note such as “Sydney — what she knows now.” Do not import facts from a later scene into an earlier one.
  • Keep searches narrow. Use your ebook's search for a name you already encountered; avoid searching the web for the character's fate.

These are reading suggestions, not a measured speed-reading system. If the time shifts are the part you enjoy, you may prefer to follow the text closely rather than listen in the background.

Turn your own DRM-free EPUB into speech

Once you have the compatible, unprotected EPUB, open the CastReader EPUB reader, select your file, choose the chapter and start with a short passage. Check that the displayed heading matches the part you intend to hear. File parsing happens locally in the browser; selecting a cloud voice is a separate choice.

A device voice can provide free on-device speech where available. CastReader AI voices require an account and have plan limits; cloud voices send reading text for speech generation. Start slowly enough to catch the timeline labels and character names, then adjust to a comfortable pace. This is TTS from your text, not the separately produced professional audiobook.

If you prefer reading on a supported Kindle page instead of importing an EPUB, use the Kindle read-aloud guide and the appropriate CastReader download. Owning a Kindle edition does not by itself confirm an EPUB export. The browser extension reads supported web pages; the EPUB workspace is the file-import route.

The useful choice is the one that fits what you already own: borrow through your library, retrieve your purchased DRM-free file, or begin the trilogy before buying its conclusion. Keep the three novels in order and the scene headings in view; you will be better prepared for the finale without needing to spoil it first.
