Quicksilver is the first Fae & Alchemy novel by Callie Hart. That author name matters: searching the title alone also turns up unrelated books. If you are here for Saeris, Kingfisher, and the journey from a water-starved desert into a fae conflict, first check this English EPUB library loan. If borrowing is unavailable, the purchase options are Kobo EPUB and Amazon Kindle.
The EPUB is a paid Adobe DRM edition. The Kindle listing is a separate reading route, not a promise of a downloadable EPUB. Neither requires you to buy a special-edition hardback just to begin the story.
Find a reading copy before choosing a collectible edition
Before paying, check the EPUB loan: Lake County Library System’s record lists Callie Hart’s full English novel, ISBN 9781538774212, in EPUB format. You need an eligible library card and an available copy or hold. Where your loan offers EPUB download, use its authorized reading workflow; it is time-limited and protected, not a public file for CastReader. If this is not your library, check your own collection for Hart’s novel. The stores below are purchase fallbacks.
The English Kobo listing identifies 9781538774212, Grand Central Publishing, with EPUB 3 (Adobe DRM) under download options. You need an eligible store account and a purchase; regional availability can differ. Read it through a compatible Kobo or Adobe-authorized reading setup. It is not a file you can directly import into an ordinary DRM-free EPUB reader.
The verified Kindle edition is ASIN B0DDKHNVWF, also English and published by Grand Central. Its page offered both a purchase and a Kindle Unlimited borrowing option when checked on October 9, 2026. A subscription loan and an owned Kindle license are different forms of access. Check the offer shown to your account rather than assuming the price, subscription eligibility, or availability is identical everywhere.
We did not verify an authorized free complete English EPUB or PDF, or an EPUB export option for this Kindle edition. If portable EPUB access is your reason for buying, establish that before paying. A Kindle page saying that screen readers are supported does not establish file-export rights.

Is this the kind of fantasy romance you want?
The author's introduction gives the essential starting problem. Saeris is twenty-four, hides unusual powers, and survives by stealing in a desert society. An accidental passage into a frozen realm entangles her with Kingfisher, who needs her alchemy for his own people's survival. Their competing interests are part of the attraction and the danger.
That is a useful way to approach the opening: follow what Saeris needs before trying to memorize every piece of fae history. Keep track of three things—what would get her home, what Kingfisher wants from her, and what a bargain actually commits her to. Let unfamiliar names acquire meaning through decisions and consequences. You do not need to build an encyclopedia in chapter one.
The author explicitly flags graphic violence and adult situations and recommends the book for readers 17+. A fantasy cover and a young protagonist do not make it a gentle young-adult adventure. Readers seeking little sexual content, consistently courteous romantic banter, or a magic system explained before the romance develops should sample before committing.
The Goodreads responses we read make that taste question more useful than a single star average. Marianna Moore responds enthusiastically to the chemistry and found-family appeal. Gry finds the worldbuilding and romantic progression less convincing. Among recent English responses, Angelica Torrado enjoys the pace and character mix. These are individual reactions, not a representative survey; full reviews may reveal later events.
Try an opening sample with one question in mind: does the dialogue make you want another scene with these people? If yes, the initial flood of names may be worth working through. If the relationship dynamic itself puts you off, a different cover or reading app will not change it.
Quicksilver, bonus chapters, then Brimstone
The Fae & Alchemy series listing places Quicksilver first and Brimstone second. Start with the first novel; a recap designed to prepare returning readers for book two is likely to spoil the discoveries you are about to make.
Callie Hart also publishes free bonus chapters on her official Extras page, including “The Gate” parts one and two and “The fox. The boots. The dress.” These are short extras, not a free copy of Quicksilver. Hart notes that they are unedited and may contain small typos.
Our spoiler-safe recommendation is to save those extras until after the main novel. Another viewpoint can reveal information before the original narrative intends you to have it. Keep the extras bookmarked, finish Quicksilver, and then decide whether you want that added perspective before moving into Brimstone. You do not need to hunt down every bonus chapter to begin book one.
Listening can help with the long reading stretch
For a first pass, use a voice and speed that let you distinguish an unfamiliar name from an ordinary word. Pause at scene changes and add a short note about the current bargain or immediate goal. When a character's name recurs, check its spelling in the text; synthetic pronunciation is not an authoritative pronunciation guide.
If you choose the Kindle edition, the CastReader Kindle reading guide describes a desktop Chrome or Edge route using the book you can open on read.amazon.com. CastReader uses local OCR on the visibly rendered Kindle page and sends extracted reading text to its voice service. It does not download or decrypt the ebook. Availability and rendering vary by book, account, and region, so begin with a short passage; we have not performed a Quicksilver-specific playback test.
The author's public bonus chapters offer a smaller, free web-reading task after you finish the novel. Open a chapter, use the browser reader, and check where the extracted passage begins before listening. This is TTS of the text, not the commercially narrated audiobook.
If you later obtain an authorized, compatible DRM-free EPUB, you can use the CastReader EPUB reader. The protected Kobo edition above does not qualify. Device voices in that tool are free without an account; cloud AI voices require sign-in and use your plan allowance. For a quick voice comparison before choosing a reading setup, try your own short passage in the free TTS tool.
Choose an edition you can comfortably read now, finish the main story before the extras, and let your response to the characters determine whether to continue the series.
